Description

This immense, ivory-peach-colored bean’s rich flavor and tender yet meaty texture makes it an ideal meat substitute.

The large, broad Corona bean is named after the luminescent halo of light that appears around the moon and sometimes the sun. The word crown is derived from the word corona, making the Corona bean the king of beans. It has been a staple of Italian food for centuries. Often called “the poor man’s meat” because of it’s rich flavor and tender yet meaty texture, it is an excellent meat substitute or complement and of course ideal for pasta e fagioli. Nicola DeLaurentiis and his wife Paola operate Casina Rossa in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Nicola DeLaurentiis is driven to tirelessly invent, improve, innovate and refine his products.

This bean can swell up to three or four times their dry selves. They cook up easily and quickly. Each bean become a soft full bite. Four or five bean are a meal size serving of protein. They have a mild bean taste and smooth, velvety texture; so they go well in any bean receipt. I’ll admit that I am a bean fan; thus I am excited to have found these lovely nutritionally and economical gems. The fact that they are “heirloom” beans, I can trust they are not generically modified. This is a very important aspect to me personally.
